Mercedes Benz W210
W210 ignition problem

My car: W210 V6 260cc year 2000

When I insert the key in, there is usually a suction sound and then I can start the car. Lately I insert the key and there isn't such a sound (steering lock problem according to my mechanic). I have to wait awhile and insert several times before I manage where there is a suction sound and I can definitely start the car when there is the suction sound. But on occasion it was hours before I can start it.

I had send this car to 2 mechanics and one send the whole set for repairs but no solution. The only solution now is to buy a used ignition system or a new one. Even then there is no guarantee it will work.

I wonder if anyone here can help me. This problem had given me headache for the last 2 months.

Forget those olive tree mechanics----find someone with factory diagnostic software to correctly define your issues which could be expensive----also remember you can't just replace a used theft relevant part from one car and make it work in another car--that ain't going to work on any W210 or later models---you will get screwed and then come back whining about how you read a BS story on the forum!! Do it correctly!!

I had gone to 2 MB workshop which has STAR diagnostic and no show to the problem. I also know I can't just replace used parts and it needs to be re-programmed and no they are not stolen. In my country, we import lots of cannibalised cars for spare part.

What country are you in?

You've posted on a USA forum and a British forum...but are from neither?

If I may ask, WTF does that have to do with the issue at hand--Questions about the Drive Authorization System 3 on a W210, because, I find it hard to believe that when you call up a W210(non CDI) in DAS or DAS Xentry it always flips you to the MB HHT screen where there is a specific menue item for testing the Drive ASystem---very strange indeed regardless of location!!---now maybe the bloke has a voltage issue ,but you see that also upon startup!!

Hi all,
I live in Malaysia and this car is imported from the UK. In the world we live in today, it is easy to order parts from all over the world and similarly get help as I believe we drive MB with similar system. And Plutoe I will forward your thoughts to someone who knows what you are talking about here.
Thank you and anymore tips is appreciated.
