New E, what kind of wattage did you use in the end for your E?
I went to their website and it seems that the lowest wattage for their bulbs are 70W. Since the E (including most cars) take in 55W, what are the dangers of going to something higher (other then probably melting your lights. :P)

Just installed some Philips Diamond Vision 5000K headlight bulbs on a new W209 CLK. Excellent effect - can't tell the difference with the xenons: very white with a bluish tint (but not too much) and much brighter compared to the standard halos Good choice Tezta!

Carlsson9,

The bulbs are 55 watt. They originally sent 80 watt, but I didn't even try them for fear they would melt the wiring. One of the H6 bulbs went out after about two-three months, but when I contacted them they not only sent a replacement but sent an extra one as well. Again great customer service.

Thanks!

Whitey, how does the Philips Xenons look?

I've been suing them all round now, and its definitely better than standard, but not as white as i would like it to be..

However, my light covers are pretty worn out with yellow bit and scratches, so i was told to change them, the effects would be better..

They're not xenons but I swear I can't tell the difference (except maybe xenons can be more blinding at certain angles). They are Diamond Vision Bulbs, 5000K, which emit a very slight blue tint. I don't know which Philips you're using (Philips makes many kinds that'll fit our cars - Blue Vision, Diamon Vision, Ultra Vision, All Weather etc with different color temprratures) but these are sure very bright and white, especially on the projectors the W209 have.

I definitely went for the diamond Blue Vision..
went through the powerbulbs webpage and found it to be the brightest of them all..

but in actual, nothing much compared to the xenons..

oh well..saving up for the hellas..

and sent the E for a top overhaul..its confirmed leaking, so will take pics of the engine open up and post it on the forum for all to see.

Oh well, I guess its the lense cuz it looks darn good on projectors. You said "Diamond Blue Vision", it should be either Blue Vision or Diamond Vision. Are you talking about the city/parking lights or headlights? I was talking about the headlights BTW. Anyways, the effect might be different with your aged lenses. I use an unbranded Jap bulb and they're very white and bright too.

Well, my Jap super whites are looking just fine to me. Now, my bud's not happy that the blue color on the bulb is visible off the projector's reflectors We'll be on the lookout for something else that has clear or whitish glass.....watch this space.....

went to a shop in KL, like a huge automobile warehouse, and they were selling **** loads of PIAA bulbs. didn't think too much about it, until i saw their display boards with all the diff types of bulbs with a switch which you can just turn on and see the effect. Was i pleasently suprised! there's a PIAA super something white bulbs or rather that was damn white, and putting it next to the HID lamp, i couldn't really tell the diff! That had totally made me believe there might be some bulbs out there that's as white as Xenons. Its 7500K, but its like RM 450 a pair of H7.. pricey, but something to think about.

i'd recommend it after seeing the lights in action myself. Will try to get the e=actual name next time

I think you can replcate the xenon color effect with halos but can never replcate their clarity. If the color is all you're after, worry no more i.e. they are available. RM450 - what's that in real money???? Sounds damn expensive in any case - Philips is probably better value (although in Hk the price of comparable PIAA and Philips is pretty much the same).

well, i'm not looking for something that's just colour whiteym but something that's brigther than regular bulbs. RM450 is about US 118 a pair. It doesn't have a blue tint, but the kind of gold coat that you won't be able to see from your projectors.

its pretty bright, but it generates quite a bit of heat too..
it's definitely whiter then the philips. Will try one day if i don't get the Xenons in the end. :P

lol

Yeah, I know what u mean - I think the Crystal Vision is the same, i.e. goldish coating and much brighter than the regular halos. Mine are definitely much brghter, close to the xenons but just don't have that crispy clear effect of the xenons.

Did u find out if the wattage is correct on the PIAAs you tested? U dun wanna spend that much money on bulbs that will burn out your system......

But US$100+ for PIAA's? I've never seen PIAAs for that much here......do find out the exact model so I can see if they're any cheaper here - there's tons of PIAAs out here!

will do whitey..the PIAAs did sound pretty expensive, but will get the actual name and maybe take a snap of it for all to see when i visit the shop again.

first thing i did when i saw the box was to check the wattage..all of them were 55W, just right for the Benz..

what Jap Brand are your bulbs? West bulbs?

Sorry, can't remember. I've tried so many different bulbs I've got millions of boxes in my trunk so I don't really know which is which . Have had them for more than 18 months now and still going strong (touch wood!).

The most expensive PIAA I've ever seen here are less than US$65, so maybe you'd be paying too much...dunno.

I've tried out about couple millions (!!!) type of bulb (probably enough to get a real xenon head light). Some burned out in matter of weeks, the rest produced half-a** light. White or blue light doesn't mean it's brighter, as the matter of fact, the quality of light is diminissed vastly.

I settled on the Philips Vision Plus, it's not one of those trendy while or blue light, but is sure produced great lights, much better than the OEM one.

It's not DOT approved, simply because it's too bright, I think. It's approved in Europe though.
