2001 E320 Rear Window Regulator install issues

I just replaced my rear window regulator and tested it a few times, up and down worked fine although the auto-up and auto down feature was not operating, but I thought that could be reprogrammed. I did not re-adapt the window but running the widow to the stop position and then hold it for 5 seconds and the same for the down position. So I installed the door panel with the window in the lowered position. Once the panel was installed the window would not operate, the motor sounded as though something was binding. So I removed ppanel, drilled out rivets and remove regulator and separated the motor from the regulator. I plugged the motor in and it worked fine in down position but when pushed in the up position it would only work for a second or two, then stop. Re-checking some install instructions I found I failed to set the pulley at the 'top' of the regulator. When I installed the regulator I had the pulley at a lowered position to set the window on the regulator lift lip. Are the issues I am having due to the fact I die not re-adapt the motor and set the pulley at the top of the regulator? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for info, how do I install the regulator "slider" to the window when the pulley is at the top position? Do I install regulator with the 'pulley' at the top and then run it down electrically (without being attached to window) to the bottom position to install the window to the regulator slider?

This is what I did....

I 'reinstalled' a rear regulator on a 1997 E320 recently and what I did was install the framework/pulley in the lowered position and attach the window. I then manually lifted the window to the top. I then attached the motor. I did have to lower the window slightly, so that when installing the motor I could turn the quarter turn or so.

I'm still waiting for the replacement switch to arrive to be able to do the whole reset thing.

'reinstalled' = took it out because it wasn't working, but everything looks OK with it, and so replacing the switch in the hopes of solving it.

Cheers,

Mike

worked perfectly!, now just need to get two door panel snaps to replace ones I broke or were broken and job done. Thanks for everyone's assistance and guidance. Every youtube video I watched and install write up they had the motor installed on the regulator and started at the lowered position.

Well, I'm doing the other rear door regulator and find myself in the same situation. it won't go up up in one easy motion, just an inch at a time. currently motor unpluged and hope tomorrow is better. For such relative easy swap out to get to this point is just a PIA!

I have received the rear window regulator and installed it, following the M&M Motors, FCP Youtube video and the window does not want to "learn" the one up/one down feature. The video shows the regulator with the motor and the window being mounted to the regulator while the regulator is in a lowered position. when I replaced the rear passenger regulator about 2 years ago I had the same issue, and was informed the regulator needed to be in the up position. So I removed the motor, installed the regulator, move the regulator to the top position and then re-mounted the motor. The window will go down in a smooth operation, but only goes up in about 1 inch increments and will only operate the one inch every 3-5 times you try to move it. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Get a feel of 2-stage switch.
When you fully press it to 2nd stage and window is not synchronized, it will move 1 inch at the time.
Push the switch to 1st click only and let the window open, still holding the switch for another 3 sec. Than repeat going up. That should get it synchronized unless you have other problem.
