Angry Burnt Fogs AGAIN!!!!!!!

Ok,this is really getting monotonous. For the fourth time in 22months,I got a burned out fog lamp.I had Piaa Extreme white plus bulbs in it,twenty something $ apiece, and it was 25 degrees when I crawled under there with a flashlite and removed the bulb.Just for ****s and giggles,I put the "defective" bulb into the other lamp, and whatdya know, its fine. Its either the Harness(third one since it was new) or a fuse which I highly doubt.
Luckily,Im having it picked up 3/1 for its 1st "B" service, and the service Rep knows me like a neighbor now so,,it'll be done for free. Im thinking MB needs to address this situation, rather than continuously replace harnesses.
Also, naturally upon removing the bulbs,I touched them with the fingers,do you think a quick wipe off with alcohol would remove any chance of them glowing poorly when i put the PIAA's back in?

Oh Steve. That sux, big time! ....could it be b-cuz you leave her out in the extreme cold?

Wiping with a clean cry cloth should do the trick. Any chemical might do more harm. Just my $0.02

Hope it works out in the end.

Had a similar problem with my 01 E320. Dealer found corrossion on the connector by the lamp. There is a new style connector/socket to correct this problem. They changed both sides without my asking to the new type. Fortunatly it was the first issue on this problem. I had gone in thinking it was just the bulb.

yeah i know what you mean. I bought Philips BLue Visison for the West bulbs that i thought blew. HOwever, 2 weeks after putting the Philips on, the error came out on the dash, and I thought another bulb blew up. But the next day, took it for a service, and had the guys look at it, and apparently the connector was fried, so they replaced, and its a'ok now..

the mounting for my H6W bulbs have also melted pretty badly..but still works fine

Hey Whitey,,,nah the cold, the warm it doesnt seem to matter, they just go. And I saw somewhere that someone wiped them with alcohol and it was fine.Sosh,Carlsson and MBZ,I thought I was in the clear after the dealer changed the harnesses(also w/o askin)for the 3rd time.I think I went four months w/o a problem.Im just happy it wasnt the PIAA bulb.

The nite it went out,I was toolin thru a tunnel in NYC comin home from work at 0500 hrs, enjoying the rumble of the REEEEmus in the tube which is a steady blind right turn and was about to pass a Beemer 540 on the outside lane, when out of nowhere,a police car unoccupied is sitting there.Beemer boy hits the binders hard,I hit my Porterfields and we stop. The boys in blue were investigating a Saturn that crashed into the wall of the tunnel and the dopes left it there unattended, airbags hangin out.I flash my high beams at him so he can go around the cop car in front of me,and then I vroom around him.5 minutes later, the defective lamp warning goes on.I had fogs and lo beams on,and as you know, when hitting the hi beams, the fogs go out temporarily.
This **** should not happen.

Just out of interest Carlsson9, did those fogs come with the bumper or does the bumper use stock lamps? Or are you talking about the headlights here.........

Wow, talk about detailed Steve. Sounded like you almost re-enacted a scene from the movie "Daylight" (such a crappy movie btw) Thank god your Porterfields did what they're s'pose to do. The part I did't get is, where did you guys end up relative to each other when you came to a halt? Sounds like you were still behind him? i.e. you didn't manage to take the bimmer before you'd realized the patrol car was there? Anyways, sounds like a wiring problem if your fogs go out when you hib-beam is on, but not sure.

I think it's the connectors/sockets of the bulbs on the w210s that are designed poorly. I used to and still have a problem with my stop light and left front blinker light and some other lights like licence plate light. Now before buying a new bulb I give the lamp in question a nice bump and in many cases it is enough to bring the light back to life.

Talking

Yep 6.3,when I first got the car I tapped the fogs and it flickered. Then eventually it wouldnt work at all,so the dealer has been seeing me way too much since I bought the car.

Whiteness,I was just about to blow by Beemer and moved into the left lane,Im sure I saw the cop car first .So being an ex Law dog myself, I quickly let off and stayed left while leaving Beemer room just in case he panicked and moved left too.
Remembering how inconsiderate I thought drivers were who zoomed by me when I was standing in traffic dealing with someone we just pulled over,I thought it best not to pass until we got around the boys in blue.Just courtesy ya know Dave.
But I had him all set up,,LOL.

3.2L with torque delay vs 4.0L without torque delay, yeah right! But you have potential for a great contribution to the Kill Stories section....why not practice your writing skills there?

Its a Reeeeeemus, not a rocket booster brotha, LOL! Now, here's an idea. What if the Sherriff's dept would sponsor you to do her up as an unmarked patrol unit.?.............Hey, and you won't worry about having to pay for repairs on your fogs again!
