Fog Lamp is Baked....Again!

Alright, this is the second time in the two years that I've had my Benz that the fog lamp goes out! So, again, I go to change it out and discover that it has actually baked into the socket and impossible to get out. So now I need to take it to the dealer to get a whole new assembly! I suppose I can get all the other little stuff worked on while it's there.

Funny, I've replaced my fog lamp bulbs twice in a span of a month. And not cheap bulbs mine you, the West Blue and now the philips vision blue. sucks big time. makes me wonder whether the lamps can take it

take a number...

...and get in line behind me! mine have melted in using both stock and philips several times.
i estimate the life of these fogs to be 100 hours. i like to wear mine , so they may go quicker than other users. currently back to stock, and i got ominous 'lamp out' or whatever warning coming out of car wash..no casualty yet.
i inquired to dealer about possible tsb out there, but they were evasive as usual. they have never failed to replace free however.

one note, for a while last winter i had on the philips all-weather yellows with no prob, but dont know if they just werent on long enough to melt in.
good luck , j.

Umm, strange - if its not cheap bulbs......

I also had the Philips all weather in the fogs of my bimmer and found them more durable compared to the others...but they're not white....

I was wondering about the PIAA's..how close xenon like are they?
they cost a bomb though..almost double the philips blue vision.
but i heard they weren't all that good..maybe anyone can clarify it for me?

I've been dying to get the HID ballast for my car. But paying RM3500 seems pretty steep for lights. I might have to spend that anyway for a top overhaul, as my mechanic has found some oil leakage in the engine.

Yes,,the PIAA's were about 30$ a piece, and they are pretty good so far,,bright and really a close match to the xenons.4000k.

I use the fogs day and nite, naturally if they burn out the dealer will change them again,,but after the 4yr 50 k warranty,I dont think they will.

They'll honor the warranty even if you use aftermarket bulbs????? Man, here, they'll void your warranty on anything that's related/connected to anything you use that's not supplied by the stealers and they never replace parts for free!!!! Its likely they'll even void the warranty on the entire electrical system

my guy has stood up to a 'melt-in' of aftermarket bulbs, but kind of gave me the heads-up that the shop 'doesnt like' to see anything else in there. since then i have pried the tops of the bulbs out of the harness in an effort to pull them out myself(unsuccessfully) , i left just the base of the bulbs stuck in the harness , but the result is that no one can tell whether bulb was stock or not , thus avoiding that awkward conversation.
