Suspension question
Hi guys
I recently noticed that the "ride" has gotten a little rougher going over bumps -even small ones, potholes and the like. The tires are in very good shape so I am guessing that the suspension system needs work.
Any recommendations? new shocks, struts, something else? what's the best manufacturer of this stuff for Mercedes? Should I ask the dealer to do it or go to a specialty place that can install Monroes?
My '98 E320 4matic has roughly 54k miles on it.
all comments appreciated - thanks in advance

I just had my stock shocks replaced (also 98 and with 40+K Km i.e. less than yours). They were in pretty bad shape - almost less than half their intended travel/movement left. On this basis, I believe it is time to change yours, probably the springs too if you haven't already.
I had some Bilstein Sprint shocks put in - not too harsh, not too soft, using Eibach springs. Alot of guys here also recommend H&R's but not many have mentioned Monroes. The aftermarket shocks and springs can easily be replaced at any workshop - probably cheaper, unless you have any special reason for going to the dealer. However, things might be a little different with a 4-matic.........I'll let the owners reply....

Shocks would be the first thing and then springs if you want to lower your car and you're already in there. You should also check your lower arm bushings for wear and cracking as well.
