I check the bergwerks site and they show an angled exhaust for Remus. Yours looks straight.

Also, does anyone have a design on the exhaust system? From the engine, it's 2 catalytic converters, 2 mid mufflers (or are these resonators), then two mufflers in the rear. Is this right?

Don't you need to replace the midmufflers for any sort of growl? I'm confused.

Thumbs up Straight

They have several different shapes.Remus has a website, you can search and even hear the sound before buying(nice feature).
In my case, the system is from the cats back,2 pipes going in,no removal other than the stock muffler, and you get the growl.I think the looks outweigh the sound, only by a hair.

I checked the site, but they show only what they call a silencer (rear muffler). Are you saying that the system you got eliminated the mid mufflers? If so, do you have a part number at bergwerks?

Most aftermarket exhausts come with only the muffler/silencer to which the tips attach. Removing the mid-muffler/resonator will give you more of a growl and extra responsiveness Doc (and I!) can attest to that!

Lew,mine was attached just past the two clamps and flanges at mid-car.Resonators are in front of that, didnt mess with them.

Check the pics I have...

So Whitey, you just took out the resonators (things in the middle of the car) and replaced with straight pipes and then clamped on the silencer/muffler, correct?

Tell us again about the sound. Is it the quiet at idle and a nice growl on acceleration, or would you describe it louder? (Sound is a hard thing to describe in words)

Yep, quite on idle - only growls sweetly when the gas peddle is pressed hard - not annoying at all.

The darker pipe is what replaced the resonator/muffler used to be. Everything else remained where they used to be - so I guess the Remus is still bolted on. My Sebrings are welded on.

Well, I don't know what the law is out there in the HK Dave but would removing the resonators and/or mid mufflers mess with the smog at all??? Just wondering because I would hate to have to fail the smog check every 2 years and have to put all the stock crap back on...

From what I hear (I think Benz said this), the resonator just reduced sound. The cats are the ones that deal with the polutants, but I may be wrong.

Resonators are used to "quiet" things down.
CAtalysts is for the emissions purpose.

Some cars may have more than one resonator as well.

I recall dyno testing the Remus @ Evosport minus resonator & sec. cats...minimal 5-7rwhp gain, but ooooooooooohhhh that open V8 sounds is the real music!!! Also, those damn OEM exhaust components are so heavy.

My V6 ended up sounding like a turbo charged V8 with the Serbings

Wait a minute Whitey --- what system do you have? Serbring or Remus. I thought you have a straight pipe put in to replace the resonator and then Remus silence/muffler at the rear. Where does Serbring come in?

Where you had the photo of the exhaust underneath, you said

"The darker pipe is what replaced the resonator/muffler used to be. Everything else remained where they used to be - so I guess the Remus is still bolted on. My Sebrings are welded on."

I guess you meant the Remus style is bolted vs. welded, not that you had Remus.

I think I'll try that - just straight piping the resonators. Whitey, in your photo it looks like they connected to the two pipes to one. It's kind of dark, but that's what it looks like. Why would two pipes go to one? It seems that there are two pipes going back, then the two resonators and these go in to the rear muffler and out come two tailpipes. Am I missing something?

Lew, my muffler (both OEM and Sebring) only has one pipe going into it so I guess that's why they had to make the Y connection. However, mine is only a 2.4 so maybe the confirguration is different with a larger engine. You might want to check Stemags' pic with his Remus muffler off - I don't remember whether his was one or two pipes going into the muffler but I seem to recal it was only one too.

2 pipes in,,2 tips out

3.2 has two pipes, which route toward left rear wheel,,

Do you guys have any thoughts about just running straight pipes to eliminate the resonators and leaving the stock rear muffler. It would be cheaper if it worked.

Well,Whitey would know better, but you wouldnt get the nice finishing touch at the rear end. That half the appeal,in my opinion.

I second that Steve!

Some people run straight pipes all the way....Benz did without any pipes at all but it was real noisey, like a drag racer. Its OK I guess but I think there might be emission issues if you do away with the cats. LewS, if you're gonna do it, why not spend a few hundred bucks extra to have that "finishing touch" and the sound would be much nicer, kinda "controlled". Steve here was just going to do chrome extensions until I pursuaded him otherwise and seems very pleased about putting his on - he hasn't stopped talking about his Remus ever since, LOL!!!! I'm sure you would too.....

I never planned to take off the catalytic converters, just the resonators, but you guys are probably right, it's worth the $$$ to finish it off nicely.
