Transmission Fluid
#2
This transmission was installed in non-MB cars, like some Chrysler products, so I am sure they do not need to use MB fluids. MB says the fluid should meet spec. 236.10. I am using a Valvoline atf with that spec. listed on the back of the bottle.

I experienced that MB fluids are superior to the competition and even I could not test them all, I am not taking pushing my luck for $10 or even $20 savings.
Suppose Shell 134 is good, but than how much you can save on buying substitutes?

The main point is that you should use fluids that meet the design specification for the transmission----if the fluid meets the MB spec you are in good shape!!

When MB does allow substitutes, they are still substitutes.
The differences can be subtle, but for years I am observing that each time MB owner comes to a forum with overheating problem - he is using Zerex substitute not MB coolant.
Something that we can't measure right away, but I am using MB coolants even in my Ford Trucks as they cool the engine with no need for fans.
Also I drove E300DT for 4 years with engine fan removed, hitting 114F on deserts without overheating.
Something people like Plutoe will never understand.
