V6 engine serial number needed..
In order to fix my Rhd 1997 E200 after small frontal accident I bought another e class but with a six cylinder engine. I think it was an E240. I disassembled the donor and scrapped the chassis etc, but I kept the v6 engine and gearbox. Problem? I now need to know which exact engine it is!!!. A 2.4 or 2.6l?? Where can I find the engine number on the actual engine? I have no vin no. Found the gearbox nos. if that would help. Anyone?

Look at the right side rear of the block just below the cylinder head parting line. It isn't stamped like the old days; it is "dot matrix" printed by machine, so it may take some cleaning to find it.
