Question The electronic key (e430)

The electronic key for my car is well used

Here Are the issues that I'm currently experiencing:

1. The lock button membrane is cracked, and pressing this button does not lock the doors, or illuminate the battery check light.

2. Range for the keyless entry and trunk release is maybe 15' at best.

3. The IR portion of the fob, I'm not sure if it works or not, as I need to use both lock and unlock buttons to program IR features (windows/sunroof opening)

I've checked the batteries, and they check out ok.
Will a replacement fob solve these issues? What are you guys paying for these fobs? And will I have to go to a dealer to get one or two? Will I have to get keys cut at the same time?

Yes your only legal solution is to go to the dealer in person with registration bla bla and they will order a new fob for your car---it is a theft relevant part therefore not available legally from internet sources.------many have tried and many have come back whining ---Oh my doesn't work---NSS!!

Ok, the dealership visit isn't an issue, but will it fix the problems I mentioned.

Some members buy good shells on ebay and transfer electronic board.
Some even succeed to transfer the board from older "fish" key into new, chrome shell, but in this case the blade will not fit.

Just my 2 cents. I had every one of your mentioned problems, and I replaced just the shell and now everything is great and back to normal.

If new shell doesn't fix it, but a new key at dealer, but don't let thme turn off the old one in DAS.

Black "fish" key can be fixed, or brain chip moved into newer Chrome style.

Turn off the old one? So get a new one and keep the old one? Is there going to be a mechanical key cut for the new one?

Only real choice for new key is direct from MB. It will come with Smart Key fob and a metal key as well.

If you don't have them disable old keys, you can get the dying one fixed.

Always best to have at least 2.
