95 E320 - starting problem
hi,
My 95 E320 has a hard time starting after it's been sitting over night. The weather is fine, the battery is good, and the premium gas is fine. The car starts up fine after the fist start, but more the car sits, longer it takes to crank it up. I have to turn the ignition for about a minute to start it after one day, and a few minutes if the car sits over the weekend.
I just bought this car, so have no history on it. It has only 55k miles and runs and drives just excellent.
any help is appreciated,
Shon

Did it start doing this when the weather got cold?
Try running mid grade gas in the car and see if that helps. 104 engines with starting problems in cold weather are helped by midgrade gas. See if this does the trick. MB says this is ok.
You can also do the basics like testing the battery too.
Try it and check back with us.

no the weather is fine, about 50-70 here.
battery is strong, and the starter turns very good. It's just a matter of sitting. if you start it in the morning, then go try starting it at 10PM it'll take a while to start. once it starts, and if started within a few hours, it starts right up. more it sits, longer it takes to start. after two days of sitting, it took me nearly 5 minutes to start it. I almost burnd the starter getting it going. Then lot of black smoke and runs fine.

Black smoke?? Then you have a fuel injuection problem of some sort. Sounds like the enrichining valve or sensor that acts like a choke is not operating properly. I would take it to a dealer or fuel injection specialist to have it diagnosed and corrected

the black smoke is I think because I'm probably floating it since the injectors are pumping gas in the cylinders. After the first start the car is just perfect. no smoke, starts right up, so wouldn't you think if it's an injector or fuel pressure problem I would have it all the time????
this morning the car started right up, first time it happened. I'll try it again tomorrow.
