Cupholder Problem

This problem keeps on happening and its getting me pissed off. I try to tell myself that it will fix itself but it wount quit. The door to get to the cupholder in the center console sometimes refuses to stay up after I want to close it. It just drops down after I pull it up to lock it in place. Anybody have this problem before? Any information would really be appreciated.

That's easy. Just remove the center console, and the entire door mechanism can be replaced. It's one complete unit.

Cupholder problem

Yeah, I've had the same problem with the cupholder in my 97 E420. You probably won't believe me, but I think it's actually related to the ambient humidity. On very humid days -- or when I've been in the car without the AC running (which acts to dehumidify the air, I guess) the cupholder doesn't stay closed. If I turn off the car, exit for a few hours, then try to latch it closed, it works perfectly.

Maybe I'm just nuts, but it seems to work for me.

Tiny cup holder

Not a problem, more of a usability gripe.

When two of us both have 12oz coffees, only one fits in the far right cup holder... is there any after market replacement of the central cup holder on the E320 that would hold two coffee cups? Right now all we could fit in the left side would be a small bottle of water.

Yea, thats what I do but I was just wondering if there was anyway to fix the problem permanently.

Thats a good point also. I'd be interesed in something like that.

That cupholder design is cute, however, it is way to fragile and flimsy. I sometimes had the sticking door problem on my 98 E430 and really afraid to use it on my E55.

Yes, the same thing keeps happening to me. I've had the dealer "fix" it twice. I've been really pissed off too, both with the cupholder and my dealer. I feel better that it's not just me...

replaced under warranty

Mine did the same thing, periodically not being able to stay closed. It was pretty frustrating. The dealership replaced the whole assembly under warranty and I haven't had a problem since.

Same here

My 99 E430 had the problem replaced twice now by the dealer, and the door below the radio once.
The only complaint of poor outsourcing.
