Shopping for a Wagon
New to the forum, and I need some help. My wife is tired of the minivan, and we've about decided to look for an MB wagon. I've got a 00 BMW 540/6, and would love an E39 wagon, but we've got to have a third seat, and the 4matic is attractive too. Given our budget, we'll be looking at 98-00 model years. What should I look out for? Any good dedicated wagon sites out there? All help appreciated.

The MB Wagon is a Great Vehicle...
If Possible go for the 2000 / 2002 The 2000 on Has The Model Update Body..Different Bumpers/Hood/Lights/Mirrors W Turn Signals in them.Looks Great!
The Inside Change the Cluster/Steering Wheel to a Multi function Steering Wheel and The Cluster has a Multi Function Display
The W210 has some problems
Crank Pullies should be Inspected for cracks
exhaust leaks / cat converters/
Seat Frames
A/C Evap temp sensor
Fuel Sending Units\
Motor Mounts
I Would recommend to change out the Trans Fluid and Filter
The Lifetime fluid is ...WRONG
I Had a ML before I Bought my W210 wagon
Its a car with Room!

The 4Matic Is $$$$ to repair since the front axles run throught the Engine oil pan....

Thanks for the info. I'm looking at a 00 4matic with 62xxx miles. Should that kind of mileage concern me, assuming the car has been correctly maintained (one owner, all records)? The car seems aggresively price (asking $24,900), so I can live with a few extra miles.

Don't let the miles worry you. I would offer them less than $24,900 though. Try $21k and end up in the middle somewhere. Although I am not particularly fond of the looks of the wagon, they are great cars.

I spent around nine months researching/pondering/looking/driving wagons. Most of which was spent focused on the Volvo XC, but their service history is not good and I w/n in love with the 3rd seat. Then I started looking at the Audi's and BMWs. Any way, finally learned about the E320 and it had, imho, the best 4 wheel dr plus biggest 3rd seat combo - plus best looking out of the bunch.
I do agree with Mark. You musthave the car pre-inspected. I thought I had a deal on one, spent $100 for a pre-inspection by a reputable service and the car actually died during the inspection!
I had a pre-inspect by an authorized dealer for this one and it revealved the tranny problem. Seller agreed to have MB repair at his cost and threw in a B service.
I really love the car. It's smoooooth.
