2001 E430 trunk opens on it's own? NEED HELP !
Can someone assist with this? I have a 2001 E430, 230k miles. For the past few days the trunk has been randomly popping open on it's own. It will do this while my key fob is sitting untouched next to me. Sometimes it does it 30 seconds after I unlock or lock the car, sometimes it does it when I'm at a stop light, never seems to do it when I am on the highway or at speed.
I do know the trunk release button is physically broken on the panel next to the shifter, but it's been that way since I bought the car.
Is there a fuse or harness I can unplug that will kill the electronic trunk release? and go back to a regular key release?
Is this a common issue on these cars? Any help would be appreciated, this is happening 10 times a day or more now.

Nope, no fuse, however you are correct you either have a faulty switch or pump---see someone that knows the MB locking system diagnostics and be watchful of post getting spammers!!

It's the pump under the rear passanger side seat that provides all the pnumatics to open and close all the central locking features---you do have a manual and the diagnostic equipment to test the PSE control module to find the fault---correct!!

kepone: just uncover the foam surrounding the PSE pump referenced above by
Plutoe. one of the outlet ports should be labeled HACK KAF . that is the pump
connection to the trunk. carefully disconnect it from the elbow port and that
should resolve any inadvertent air toggling open the trunk.
p.s. since there are variations in design of the PSE module, your pump may
differ slightly from that pictured below (from my 1999 E320)

please keep in mind I bought this car used for $1800, and it did not come with a manual.

If the problem returns and I need to disconnect that port from the PSE pump, do I need to seal it off? Will that create a vacuum leak?

""If the problem returns and I need to disconnect that port from the PSE pump, do I need to seal it off? Will that create a vacuum leak?""
Yes you do!!
If unsealed you will have created a so called leak for the trunk function only, however that is what you want so the trunk does not randomly open!!

Also can someone point me to a DIY on how to remove the window switch panel?
