Door Panel Trim Removal/Speaker Install
I just bought a perfect MY'00 E430 Sport with only 26K miles, silver on black, and I am looking to upgrade my stock stereo system similar to 'Matt's Mercedes Benz' - he did an awesome job, check out the following:
http://www.sounddomain.com/memberpage/133487/1
and the first job I need to tackle is replacing the door speakers, front & rear, also using the 'stock' tweeter fitting in the 'A' Pillar trim, 'behind' the rear-view mirrors for the front component set-up.
Trouble is, no-one seems to be able to tell me exactly WHAT size speakers are direct drop-in replacements for the door speakers, nor do I have the first clue how to successfully remove the door trims/A-Pillar trim without damaging them to get at the speaker locations!
Any advice or help would be very much appreciated...(pictures showing me how would be fantastic!). FYI, I plan to make a step-by-step photo documentary of the install to help out all the other poor slobs like me who don't have a clue. THANKS!
Cheers for now,
remove the screw behind it(Phillips)
remove the SRS plastic cover
remove the screw behind it(Phillips)
remove the round cover at the lower panel area above the door pocket
remove the phillips screw behind it
remove the TWO phillips screws@ plastic cover at the door lock
Insert a PLASTIC wedge or covered screw driver to POP the Lower door panel then lift up and then unplug the seat controls and remove the inner release cable from the door..pops off
then you will see the Torx screws for the handles
THANKS Stemag & Eddie - I'll give this a try on the weekend...but very delicately! Once I feel more confident I'll start posting pictures etc. for the full install (just in case anyone else is interested).Cheers for now,
Sacha
i bought a set from a site called equalizer. Good quality tools and I didn't break any fastners!
The fastners are not cheap, about 1.75 each for a silly little piece o' plastic.
BTW, just finished a complete install of the audio system. A huge improvement over the stock bose system.
Front speakers are 6.5 coaxial
Rear doors are 3.5 inch single cones
Rear deck speakers are 6.5 2 ohm drivers.
(didn't have any factory tweeters in the a-pillar so don't know what size these were. I used the Focal TN-45 tweeter for the install)
good luck.
