i should make it clear:

1. reliability (which one has less known problems)?

2. handling

3. fun factor to have it..

4. maybe resale value as well

It comes down to what your needs are. If you need a 4 door then the E is the best choice. I think that the quality is better in the E over the CLK. If you want a little more power but less economy then get the 430 instead of the 320. If you can get a newer model for the same money then go for it but there is not much difference from the 00 to 01. If it comes down to getting an older one with less miles instead of a newer one with more for the same cost, I would get the older one. The E probably has more options and aftermarket upgrades available.

2014 E550 4matic,, sold 2012 E 350 4matic,,sold 2010 e350 4w,sold 2002 e320 se
Thumbs up

Ive never owned a Clk,but the E is the hands down more reliable or they never would have sold so many.As for fun,the v6 E is plenty peppy, and you get economy in an uncertain gasoline world.Handles, and performs like a sports car when you want, and isnt bad looking.(imho)

didnt the W208 430 come in first place for used car's resale value last year? Anyways, you really can't compare the clk to the e. if you need a 4 door sedan, go with the E. If you can live with a 2 door coupe, and the hassels of climbing in and out of the back seat, then stay with the clk. Both are awesome cars, but in different categories. As far as aftermarket mods are concerned, it looks as if there are pretty much equal amounts for both cars. Whichever you choose, you definitely will NOT have any problems finding aftermarket upgrades =)

I believe everyone has said what is needed from a practical point of view. There is one criteria that that is subjective and really depends on personal preference - looks. Afterall, one thing that really drives us to spend so much $$$ on our cars is to achieve a certain style, right? If you want a sportier, more agile (and arguably younger) image, then the CLK, but if you want a more practical car, then the E (of course, it can also be made more sporty with a few mods) but that's entirely what you want to achieve.........and whether you already have another car to satisfy either of those "needs" already. It also depends on what your short/long term plans are - there'd been a few members who's only car is a CLK (or any coupe for that matter) and had to opt for a sedan after they decide to get married or have kids.......

'04 Silverado Z71 - sold all my Benzes and need another!
E430 over CLK is my opinion. You still have a nice sporty car with the options to mod the crap out of it and still have lots more room than a coupe. Unless as mentioned before, you don't need the room and just want something for looks, it's all up to you. The 430 has lots of power compared to the 320 (both nice) but it's again, all up to you if your going after power or economy. Good luck...

You don't hear anyone say that the E-Class is not a sporty enough style. Go for the E.
