19s and pickup speed

I have heard that 19inch rims really slow down pick up speed as compared to a 17s and 18s. What exactly is the physics behind that. Is it increased radius of the wheel, lower profile tires, wheel weight and by how much. Eg 0-60 in 1 more second or are we talking over 3 etc.

Thanks

19's no problem

I've got 19's on mine and I have no problem if there is a difference its not drastic or even noticeable. But then again I don’t take it out to the strip and drag race it either. i have heard that the weight difference is pretty significant but i feel no difference at all.

Just get super light forged rims and you'll have no problems

It depends on the wheel. If you get lightweight forged rims like Whitey suggests and they are lighter than the wheels they replace, it may improve acceleration. If the 19s you get are like mine and are heavier, then acceleration will be slower. I noticed only a couple of tenths in the quarter mile.

Yup, I think it all has to do with the weight...

My latest wheels, 19's (first pic on the right ) replaced 18" boat anchors (second from the right ) which were at least twice the weight and when I stepped on the gas leaving the wheel shop after I had the new ones put in, my wheels spun on the tarmac - its never done that on a normal take off! It was like my ride was telling me.....WTF, I'm walking on air! Acceleration definitely was better than any of my previous 18's.....

Carlsson 2/6 heavy!

I know I have Carlsson 2/6 Brilliant edition. really heavy. called Carlsson dealer. asked them why they design something like this. they said all their 2 piece like that supposed to be high quality! don't know?? I can see my pick up speed decrease a second or 2....

All the TUV (or is it TUF) approved stuff tends to be quite heavy as this standard is more on strength not performance. You will find all the tuner wheels e.g. AMG, Carlsson. Brabus etc. are all quite heavy, possibly a reason why the Carlsson 1/16's are still heavier than mine even tho their both made the same in design and forged.

What's advantage of big wheels besides slow acceleration?
