Those Chrome Light Rings
I finally saw one live today at my dealer - it looked very good - better than seen pic that was posted here a long time ago. the owner even had it around the fogs also - don't care much for that though. $157 @ MBUSA site for a set of four - where can I get them cheaper? and is installation relatively easy?
I also would like to replace the grille with one that has a center mounted three ring star - like the SL500's or ML style. Is that possible and how expensive. If possible, I'd like to get rid of the hood ornament and just place the round style there - also a la SL500.

Chrome Light Bezel
I had the Chrome light bezels put on my E430 a while back and I have to say it looks greeeaaaat. The car is Black and the chrome really stands out nicely and it blends well with the chrome rims and chrome grill. You should definitely get it done!

The ones at the dealer are the standard and the ones sold by others usually made by Schaetz of Germany are a tad bit lower in quality. I had a hard time getting the cheaper one to stick/seat well on my 98 E430. Purchased the Mercedes ones for my E55.

I got the $50 cheap set from ebay about a month ago. There seem to be two guys who sell these on ebay regularly. Both of them were asking $50, so I went with the one who had the cheaper shipping charge ($4). I had the box at my door 2 days later.
The rings are marked as to which side they go on. If you mix them up, the fit is lousy (as I did). After I realized my mistake and switched them around, the fit is flawless.
On a white car, they look really good.
I do find myself double-checking at the carwash that they haven't fallen off. The idea above to use a real glue is a good one. That 3M sticky tape that comes with it probably won't last forever.

Be carefull installing these chrome rings: clean the headlamp area first with either alcohol (Isopropyl..not rubbing..they sometimes contain lubricants), or some ammonia window cleaner! As per the other member..mine too (BTW..they must be positioned _perfectly_ or they _will_ lift off in places later) lifted up in various places! Solution: as stated..a little silicone glue goes a long way!<G> Otto
