Relax. If you subscribed to the EPC you would have had your answer within minutes and not be depending upon others.

Post your VIN and we can give you a list of TCM part numbers that will work.

Many of the views are the "spiders" used by Google and others to scan your post for key words to be used in internet searches.

Thanks for the reply Bbirdwell
I thought that’s what this site was about others helping others, not depending on others.

What is the EPC?
EPC is the Electronic Parts Catalog. You can purchase subscriptions one year at a time and it is the same database used by the dealer. Enter your VIN and It provides your "As-built" Data Card plus all part numbers of various modules. Just looking at a North American market E320 4Matic (but not knowing your VIN) showed three different TCMs. One version (A 024 545 85 32) was used up until 30 June 2000 and an updated version (A 030 545 23 32) began to be installed on 31 May 2000 so it appears there was one month where an E320 4Matic could have had either module. This is why you should always look up parts by VIN.

Okay cool. Thank you!!
Can you give me your opinion on the codes?
Can i send you my Vin?
BTW...The tech did put the older one in the car today and it didnt seem to change anything.
I have the 2000 sitting in my driveway. It needs a bunch of things done (Cats, 2 window regulators, 4 springs. 2 front axles, AC work) so i was going to drop that trans in the 2003.
Just don't want to do all that work if i can get the 2003 running.

Sure, send me your VIN.
The code shows as "stored" but not current. That indicates a failure in the past but the fault is not currently active. Not knowing what, if any, work was performed on your transmission, you must clear any electronic fault codes using DAS or equivalent (I'm not familiar with the capabilities of your unit). Until cleared, the car will remain in limp mode (2nd gear and reverse only).

This is the part number for the VIN you sent me.
What exactly is wrong with the '03 transmission? What codes are you getting? See this post to get an idea of what codes you should be seeing if there is a transmission fault.

If you have access to DAS this post will show you how to determine transmission health:

The magicman is blowing smoke. He has a crappy scanner that can't read the transmission faults and then he assumes it is a faulty TCU----wada joke and you can't please folks like that who think every thing is free------get a good scan and then go by the wife a hot dog!

Change mechanics because if he can't read the transmission faults, he will tell you all sorts of HS and with your depth of knowledge you may just believe him-----call around and simply ask if they can read the MB TCU.

FYI: One of my sets I use XDOS with a C4 mux on a Dell laptop that I installed the software, total cost NOYB

If my depth of knowledge lead me to believe him, I would not be here asking for help.
Are you here to help? If so, I’m willing to listen and learn. The same thing you had to do when your depth of knowledge about automobiles was subpar.

Then simply do what everyone has been telling you---get a transmissions scan---that will tell you what is faulty in the transmission---how much more clear do we have to be and yes it is going to cost money as I cant plug into your car via the internet! ------come back with a P07XX fault code.

Well that's another one of your wrong assumptions. When there is an issue with the TCU, it sends a generic message to the ECU that there is a fault in the transmission---but its generic and you need to interrogate the TCU for the specific fault--your mechanics tool just said there is a fault in N15\3, but his scanner couldent tell the specific fault because it is a piece of crap relating to Mercedes.

Any way you are lost and don't waste money on a scanner when there are loads of folks in your town that read the TCU, simply call around and you don't pay em unless they can read and provide you with the specific fault code-----------I am tired good by!

Plutoe is helpless.
Photobucket made new anti-hacking software in last days, so hosted pictures do not show even if you have older fix.
So reload the pictures to imgur or similar and repost links so we can see what dispute is about.
Per my perception about 90% + of transmissions or electric plates on those cars are replaced simply becouse mechanics don't know how to troubleshoot them.
You can spend almost a grand on C4 + laptop scanner what will give you the option to deal with it yourself, but those scanners will not help much with newer models coding,
I am using MaxiEcu what is way cheaper alternative, but with some limits as well.
