Transmission problem
Hey, I'm new to the forum. I have a 99 E320 4matic, the problem I have is when I start the drive put it in drive it doesn't engage it's like it's in neutral no matter if it is reverse or 3rd, 2nd or even 1st will not engage. I put it back to drive and wait a minute then it goes in gear. Once in gear drives fine until I put it into park, then I have to do the same thing wait till it goes in gear, same thing for reverse. I have no codes for the transmission or anything else. Fluid is where it should be. I don't want to bring it a transmission place cause for sure they will say it needs to be rebuild. Everything I read this is a bullet prove tranny, and most of the problems is electrical. I'm hoping someone out there might have some kind of idea. Thanks

Not sure what you mean by the pilot bushing and Owings. Could you give me more information where they are. Thanks for responding to the message.

If you used an OBD2 reader, you will have no transmission codes. On a W210, you must use a Xentry/DAS/Star system connected to the 38-pin connector under the hood on the driver's side of the car to read transmission codes. I say again, an OBD2 code reader will not read transmission codes on a W210.
I suggest you read the stickies on the other forum.

Search for the ATSG manual for the 722.6 transmission and read it. Expect to spend a few hours as it is 104 pages long and filled with technical info.

2001 E320 Wagon 4matic (W210)
Hey Everyone,
I have a 2001 E320 Wagon. I got it about 6 months ago and it was experiencing some of the same issues. I ended up needing a new CONDUCTOR PLATE. It's a VERY common issue with my model vehicle. It was about $600 to get fixed by a local guy. Good luck.

No it is not a common issue. Aging orings on pilot bushing is common issue.
Lot of conductor plates are replaced only becouse mechanics milk the customer who doesn't know better.
Early conductor plates had weak sensor springs, but that got reinforced around 1999.
