W210 electrical problem HELP
Hallo,
I need help about resolving the problem with my Mercedes W210 1997. Yesterday I went to work, parked the car and locked it with the IR remote key. Everything was normal. After work, approaching the car, I found out that it wouldn't unlock with the IR remote key. I unlocked the door with the metal blade, and when I opened the door, a smell of burned plastic hit my nose. I found out that the battery is completely discharged. I took another battery from my friend's car replaced mine, and put the new one. When I attached the cables to the battery, I found out that the high beam lamps turned on, and the high beam lamp lighted on the dashboard too - the lights switch was switched off, of course. Besides that the dashboard lighted as if the engine is about to be started, and this whole thing without the key being put in the lock. I couldn't find out from where that smell came from. What could be the problem? Please share you opinion. Thank you!

Just to clarify, you have ignition switch that is using switch-blade?
Sounds to me like your your wiring melted most likely under the dash. Headlight wiring should be easy to track and light switch is easy to access.

No, the ignition switch is only infrared. The blade is used for unlocking the driver's door and the trunk, when the IR doesn't work.
I wonder how the bаttery has discarged. This means that the problem is in cable with permanent +.

Out Of Control!!
Sounds like you have an electrical component that did not shut off when you stopped the engine and the battery was drained. The problem is what module and how to find it quickly with out a CAN analyzer(diagnostic tool)---you are then left with going fuse by fuse throughout the car until you find the leak!

Could you break off the top of the box and take a picture inside?
Those things don't happen on MB very often and I am curios what exactly might happen there.
