2000 e430 help needed

I have a 2000 e430 that the shifter will not go back in to park unless I release the brakes and it feels like its stuck in 1st or 2nd gear.i read about the brake light switch the brake lights work fine.i am thinking of purchasing a shifter assembly cause I read the shifter houses the trans module.my question is I cannot find any tests that I can do to verify the shifter or the brake light switch is faulty.last question my heater fan will not turn off unless I disconnect battery so I did a test I found on here that test the blower motor it said that if the black fan wire that goes to the fan resister has 12v power the fan is bad I got a new one still had 12v and stayed on so I am thinking of buying the fan resister.is there a way to test it to verify its faulty.any help appreciated thank you

There is a linkage between shifter and brake pedal.
I never work on it, but it is adjustable. Check youtube for pictorials.

thanks for your help and suggestions.i figured the problems out.to help others here is what I tested and found.heater fan runs with car off.It was the heater fan resistor. black wire from heater fan to resistor had constant 12v.resistor/reistat controls ground path on MB with fan speed controls off should be ground or is bad.the shifter/limp mode issue was the shifter assembly itself.so the test I acquired from MB lead tech.was check for 5v ref signal at trans selector module with key on if you have a 5v signal (I cant remember wich color wire that had 5v ref signal but 1 should I checked all) and no gear indication on your dash then the selector module is bad causing shifter lockout and putting the trans in limp mode and does not set engine light.picked a used one on ebay 130 bucks.the vehicle works perfect again.hope this will help someone.thanks again
