Key turns, lights work starter nothing. any ideas?
15 years ago I bought my mother-in-law for 2001 e55 I drive it on the weekends and it’s in good shape. Last week I change the battery. Yesterday I took her for a one hour ride in the country and when I pulled into the driveway to unload the groceries the car would not start again.
I have lights, horn, the radio but even though I turn the key all the way to the right the starter does nothing.
On Monday morning I’ll call Mercedes-Benz but I’m wondering if anyone has any tips for me
I’d be grateful for any advice.
Thank you
Phil

hah!...i was running out the door to walk the dog, then I thought I didn't take into account the no-crank. youre right Strigoi
so negate my earlier suggestion. MUST verify voltage at the battery posts, fuses for primary circuit, etc. battery health must be verified with battery under load (eg. cranking)

I don't assume you have both keys with you, do you?
Do you hear the ESL unlock when you insert the key?
Perhaps try removing the key and disconnecting the ground (the little door with a 10mm bold behind the passenger seat below the rear seat cushion. It is visible looking back from the driver side, and allow the computers to reset.
Just make sure the key is not in the ignition when you do this. Leave it for about 5 minutes and reconnect,

I have this problem with my 01 E320 and will follow last update and disconnect. I haven’t seen anything like this as all dash and interior lights stay bright. The engine doesn’t even try to start. Not like any battery issue I have seen and only have the one key.
