Question RPMs at 80MPH?

My first post, apologies if this is a repeated question, feel free to direct me to the earlier threads.

I was driving to work this AM in the 1998 e320 4matic which my wife normally drives. It was revving about 2950 at 80 MPH. Seems high. I had it in D and "Summer" mode.

Thanks!

This is the picture I saved from my (now sold) 2003 E320 4M, so your rpm sounds right.
It takes diesel to cruise 80 mph with 2000 rpm

For a gas car that's just fine. Enjoy the ride!---remember you drive a twenty year ole rust bucket and the exhaust system may be somewhat worn that along with road noise could be producing sounds that you may not hear or recognize while on your bike!!

My bike? The ride is fine, just put some $$ into it. I do have a 34-year old BMW without a spot of rust. This Benz has a couple dings that have started to rust. German cars just don’t rust unless dented and not repaired. But rust never sleeps.

I just thought the rpms seemed high for the speed. There is no gear/speed chart in the OM. I can’t find anything online other than forum posts on the tooic.

Those RPMs are spot on for that speed. Nothing to worry about.
