Idle Issues 1996 E320
So Im experiencing idle issues.. Surging from 300 to 100 rpm. Stalling frequently.. I didn't post pics yesterday so here are some in the area ive been lookin.. Can someone tell me the purpose of these two devices located side by side .. One is called a shut-off valve? The other? Is that a idle air control valve? And would they have anything to do with idle issues? If I pull the red vacuum line off, Im not getting any suction.. But should I, or is this triggered by something else to come on at some strategic time.. Also is my MAF sensor shown anywhere in these pictures? Lastly, the idle runs perfect when engine is cold... What might this mean?

Not too many owners of this engine, but I think your engine has vacuum engine/transmission controller.
So start with checking all vacuum hoses for leaks and breaks.
Should have 1 tubing going under to transmission controller Make sure it is not dangling under the car.
Gasoline engines don't have SOV.
What I see on pictures is EGR and MAF.

Are you throwing any codes? (Check engine light)
Your vacuum lines look super old and brittle. Like Kajtek1 says, check all vacuum lines for breaks and leaks. Those old vac lines break like dry spaghetti.
