E320 replaced battery -now it will not pass smog
Hi My Aunts car sat for about 2 years without being started. We replaced the battery and thought all was ok. I took it to be smog checked and they asked if we replaced battery recently. I said yes...they told me I needed to take car on freeway and drive at 65 mph for about 1/2 hour then let car rest and drive again for 1/2 hr to "reset" the cars computer. I took the car out and it drove fine on the freeway then when I got off and was slowing down at stop sign, the car died on me. All the dash error lights were on and the car just stopped. I could not restart the car. I tried several times. So I let it sit for about 45 minutes and tried it again. It started right up. I drove back on the freeway to come home and when I got off the freeway and was pulling into my driveway it died again. The temp was between 80-90.
What do you think the problem is? How do I get the car ready to take it back to the smog place? Will it pass smog? On the smog papers they gave me it says that everything passed but it says Failed Functional test. Passed Emissions and passed Visual. It said this vehicle did not pass the OBD because the OBD was not ready to test. What does this mean? How do I get it ready to test?

The crank position sensor is most likely the culprit for the stalling. Have you scanned it to see what codes are scored? If it hasn't been scanned it's just a guessing game.
You need to do a certain amount of drive cycles for the car to be ready to smog. I believe the actual procedure for it is posted somewhere on the forums. Do a search or just drive the car around for several days before trying to get it smogged again.

Those early computers don't have CPS codes, so you have to take your chances.
Suppose observing tachometer will tell if CPS is working or not.
You can google smog driving cycles. The one I found takes about 100 situations and the most overlooked is idling cold engine for few minutes before driving.
