Engine stopped crancking
1998 e320.
Went to store, parked. came back and wont crank.
Battery is topped off.
I usually hear the fuel pump turn of when turning key and then crank. but now nothing. Dash lights up normally.
I saw prior post showing a no-start issue that was the fuel pump relay. That example, the engine would crank wont no start.
My issue is it wont crank or hear any clicks.

Sounds like a tumbler issue of some sorts..you have power at the dash...but hear no fuel pump prime..no “click”..as in a starter issue....and assuming the column has power to the tumbler, I’d tend to think if the tumblers not making electrical connection...I’d start there,...go to main fuses, the power cable to the starter solenoid....

Could be a number of things, but...
One of the easiest checks on your neutral safety switch is to turn the key to on, and put the car in N, then try and start. If it cranks over, your neutral safety switch is failing and you should replace it.
basically even though the car is in P, it thinks its in D or R and wont crank.
