My 1998 e320 will not crank. All electrical and lights work. Battery checks out and I have tried a newer battery.
checked all fuses (engine compartment - both, under seat); all checked out.
connected obd scanner and no return codes.
will answer any questions and accept any advice.
thanks.

Out Of Control!!
If its not the K40\4k2 starter relay located in the passenger side fuse and relay box, then it could be the starter lock out circuit within the transmission conductor plate.

No crank aka the key turns, cluster lights come one, but starter will not engage?
Observe car voltage. Even with good battery you can have dirty connections.

WOW! What state that starter was in? Looks like electrocorrosion eat main supply cable and that's pure copper. Took lot of salt to do that.
Very extreme situation, but evidently it does happen.

'99 E320, '65 Chrysler 300, '03 Silverado Dually, '98 Sportster,,
the car ('99 E320 wagon) was parked in Nov of '17 with broken lower control arm, was started as recently as May of this year, I repaired the control arm and discovered the battery was dead ( door was left open). We assumed that it was something in the electronic modules and relays, so I enlisted the help of a MB master tech with all the correct diagnostic equipment. After thorough inspection and0 trouble shooting (2-3 hours) we narrowed it down to the starter. we removed the starter and sure enough, this is what we discovered. Always check the simplest and most obvious things first....
