Power Seat Issue

Hey Guys,

I had something odd happen the other day. A few weeks back I was cleaning the interior of my car and moved the seat all the way back. I then tried to move it back, but it would not move. The memory buttons worked for all the other seat functions except forward/ backward. I’ve been trying to troubleshoot the problem ever since. I tried the reset method w/ no success. I checked the rails, fuses, plugs.. I figured something got jammed in the rail that was not visible to me. I could no longer take driving that far back, so I succumbed and booked an appt at a local MB specialist. On the way to the appt I pushed the seat button forward and to my surprise it moved both directions for a few seconds!! I managed to get the seat in a much better driving position. It still could use some adjusting.

I made an attempt to move it everyday since the issue occurred. The weather was much colder than usual the previous night if that potentially was a factor w/ the electronics. I’m just glad it appears something is not jammed in the rail. Any ideas as to what might be going on??

Cheers,

Rob

Seat switch

Mine did the same thing. It would work intermittently. I ended up replacing it the switch and it corrected the problem. I imagine you could open it and re-solder some spots but it was easier to replace.

Thanks Wess, I suspected the switch was the culprit part. I agree w/ you definitely easier to replace, it just sucks the door panel needs to be removed.

Fellas,
You really need to fill-in your user CP info so anyone reading your posts will know what specific year, model MB you are referring to.
AND then can respond accordingly.

Based on what you've explained....
Just off the top, presuming its a w210 97-99 model E-class (possibly later too), The seat controls in the door panel have a tendancy (as they get older) to go awol and either need to be 'removed and cleaned out' AND/or replaced.
I've seen this same issue on '98 model E-Class' where the forward/reverse seat controls stop working (memory buttons are fine) and then come back to life (intermittently) AND/or the forward and reverse start working in opposite directions or in just one direction only.

you're already going to be opening up the door liner and removing the seat switch module if
you're replacing it. I don't think it's much more effort to probe the circuit board for inspection
if you have the means. cold solder repairs may only take seconds. trick is high magnification
good eyes and trying to find the fracture. continuity tester would be helpful
