99 E300 Headrest stuck

The driver's headrest on my 99 E300 TD is stuck in the fully raised position which means it is probably not going to give me maximum protection in an accident. When I try the switch to lower it there is no response--no noise, no vibration no sign of mechanical life, and of course, no movement.Unless I am overlooking something I figure the problem is either a bad switch or something wrong with the motor or its connection. How can I access the motor and connections as well as the switch?Pix are attached. Thanks!

Tilt seat back forward, remove two screws at bottom of seat back, remove seat back, remove plastic brackets from the headrest arms (takes a bit of effort; just look at it and you'll see how to remove), then check the headrest motor for bad connector or bad solder joint. On mine it was a bad solder joint; touched it up for a few seconds with a soldering iron and it has been good-to-go ever since. Reassembly is the reverse. Arrow in photo points to the bad connection I found. FWIW I also eventually replaced the switch assembly in the door; more cost but it resolved multiple malfunctions. Be aware if you remove the door panel it will tend to fall apart so have industrial adhesive and c-clamps to put it back together. You can obtain the plastic clips through Pelican Parts and others. Perform an internet search on "W210 headrest assembly" and look at the images.

another thought to test the ability of the headrest is to move the seat as far back and forward as you can
using the control switches. in full rearward position, i think the headrest is suppose to move, though I
don't remember the logic or reasoning behind this. it is part of some automatic cycle function. I'll try to
dig to find a link to this feature/anomaly.

The headrest only moves up, not down, when moving the seat. If it's all the way up moving the seat around shouldn't make any change.

I've had two W210 cars and that's how it's worked on both of them.
