98 E300 Check engine electronics

Okay so this polar vortex has had my car doing some weird stuff, today I had to crank it 3 or 4 times for it to start up. When it finally did it said, check engine electronics, and even after warming up the engine, reaching my destination, turning it off, and back on again, it has the same error. Any idea what this could be?

Also, if anyone knows an indy in the Indianapolis area please get me in contact with them, tired of going to Autohaus Merkle, they charge 90 dollars just to get your car in to take a look at it.

Eh...my '99's instrument cluster would go nuts whenever temps went below 14* F. My thought is the connectors' pins and sockets contracted due to the cold and intermittent connections occur. In my case, I've since cleaned the connectors involved (Instrument cluster) but I'm waiting for a cold night to see if it is corrected. (Was a balmy 48*F last night.) So...wait for warm weather and also look into obtaining connector contact cleaner and pulling the connectors and cleaning the contacts. Won't hurt and might help. Otherwise, you have to literally put the car in a deep freeze, wait for a failure, then study codes and schematics to look for the intermittent contact/capacitor/resistor/IC...

You need a diagnostic system of your own so you can go in and read and clear codes. At $90 a pop, it would pay for itself pretty quick.
