Drift Benz Version 2

Hey y'all,

I've been on and off these forums for a long time. I used to own a 1996 C36 AMG that I rewired by hand:

Then at some other point I got the idea to make a silly 300SDL:

Then after a long break, I collaborated with FCP Euro on something even weirder. This one ended up making it into SpeedHunters.

And so after a little break, I am back with my next thing. Different from all of the above. I'm going to be making silly videos and sharing more technical specifics here. So grab some popcorn, this will be terrible, funny, awkward, or all of the above.

I made a new YouTube thing where I upload various things, but primarily it will be about this car, so here's the first video.

I love that car, watched a bunch of videos about it.

What I don't love is that they transplanted a different front and rear axles, I'm not looking to jump into a project that involved quite yet.
Also I love diesels for everyday duty, but for fun times I prefer the throttle response and characteristics of large displacement gasoline engines.

Speaking of drifting Mercedes, this gentleman found me on Instagram and is using a C63: https://www.instagram.com/drftbenz/

Eagerly awaiting where his build takes him as well.

See, that's the spirit.

No one will be upset about me modifying this one.
It needed a new home.

First question to you fine folks: does anyone know of the top of their head what suspension differences there might be between the regular W210 and the E55 version?

I ask because BC Racing only list their suspension kit for E55: https://www.ebay.com/itm/BC-Racing-C...AAAOSwD~xZlb38

Slightly stiffer springs, larger sway bars, and bilstein shocks vs sachs i believe.

FYI, as I'm sure you know, the kit wont look like the image.

Yup, kit will look different, which is why I felt the need to ask.

Sounds like the fundamental geometry and mounting locations are the same, so I should be good to run that kit.

You'll be fine running E55 parts. I have cut H&R springs for an E55 and Bilstein Sport shocks for an E430 on my E320. No issues. Also running W210 E55 wheels on it.

edit: They're H&R springs on the car. No idea why I put Eibach.

Thanks for confirming.

I arrived at the same conclusion because I saw other brands list same kit part number for E300 E320 and E55.

It's not hard to guess. Can't answer that with 100% certainty, but it will be large and cheap to acquire and run.

Nope. Great engines, as long as they are in a GM car.

Similarly and inversely, I like Mercedes chassis as long as they don't come with the bland Mercedes motors. AMG line being the exception.

If you think about it, I'm doing exactly what Aufrecht and Melcher did, just putting my own purpose-build twist on it.

Had some life work things come up. Also had to drive at Gridlife and then host the FCP Euro race team in Sonoma for their TC America SRO dates. Now waiting on a tattoo to heal. I swear I will start this soon!

- The engine and transmission are sold!
- Engine bay is completely empty, all noise deadening and heatshielding is gone.
- Front suspension is apart and I'm mocking geometry changes.

Question to you fine folks: did Mercedes use similar front caliper mounting mounts and disc diameter throughout their line in the 90s? I wonder if I can find a bolt-on caliper that is smaller for the front. The current one is very deep set towards the suspension and will be causing issues.
