Door check strap replacement
My 2002 E430 door is making a bad noise opening and closing, seems like the door strap is the culprit. I bought a MB replacement. I found a video done on a W126 and it looked like the strap had a pin that needed to be removed from where the strap connects to the body of the car. The replacement part looks like the strap might be connected to the car with a bolt and the pin is not removable. Is this correct? I haven't looked at my car yet, just got the part in today.
Is there a good tutorial or video of the process for a W210? Has anyone done this job...any tips or pointers?
Thanks

MBWorld Fanatic!
since no one has responded yet, I'll jump in. normally i make it a point not to unless I've had firsthand experience.
but my nearby pro, Mercedessource has many videos on YT and he rates this swap out as a 1 out of 10 so I'm
more likely to just jump in and be prepared to remove the door liner as well .... and just follow my nose. good luck

I did the job today, not too bad. I removed the door panel which there are good videos on the procedure. When I took the old strap out, both of the mounting brackets that connect to the inside of the door were broken. The whole assembly was loose, so it made a terrible sound. Once I fished the new strap in place, I tightened the 2 bolts on the door and the one bolt that is in the door itself. THEN I connected to strap to the the frame of the car. (and yes, it is held in place with a large star bolt. not pin to remove.) Once the door was closing properly, I put the panel back on and all is well.
A few quick notes......I had the window down to remove the panel, otherwise it would be impossible to get the top of the panel off. When I was installing the strap, I had the window up. One of the 3 door panel screws would not come loose without some WD-40...the one on the door handle. Having a set of plastic door panel shims made getting the panel off easy and no damage to anything. Go slow and it's not a bad job at all.
