Wheel fitment question

Car: 99 E320 sedan. stock ride height, and I plan on using the stock size tires

Will a 16x7 with a 40mm offset look "right" on the car? Not too sucked in or pushed out???

'right 'sucked in' 'pushed out' are subjective terms so I'll leave that up to you. i think it will be pretty close to
stock but you will still need to resolve the tire sizing which, depending on how picky you are with the aesthetics,
may be one of those devil in the details issues you need your brain and eyes to resolve

This is true, it is subjective, but I guess what I was hoping for was stock location. As far as tires, I'm just going to use the tires that are on the car now. Lots of life left. I'm not messing around with profile chages. That would be if I went to a larger wheel.

you didn't share what wheels you currently have so I assumed that they were close to stock.
it is easy to check the ET you're currently using and compare with the 41 which you are
considering. like I said, my best guess is that it would be close to stock.

Oh, yeah, I guess that would have helped, the car currently sits on stock 16" wheels. Your link was super helpful, and I did base things off of the stock dimensions. The new wheel will be 5mm "sucked in" as compared to the stock wheel on it now. I kind of doubt I'll even notice. I went and ordered the wheels today.

W210 has front suspension bolt that is originally very close to the tire.
5 mm bigger offfset will take that clearance, so be carefully.
Those cars do have big wheel wells and can accommodate much bigger tires, but usually takes lowering the offset.
I put my old monoblocks with smaller offset on W212 who has factory big offset. The wheels are pushed out as you call it, but I actually like the look.

I did look at that, and the wheel I bought is actually 7mm further away from the inside as well. Stock wheels are 7.5", these wheels are 7"

I agree, on the monoblocks, but I wasn't looking to dump a bunch of money in a car I paid 1K for! lol The set of these wheels were only $346 shipped. I think the car would look MUCH better with say, 18's on it, but I didn't feel like spending the money on wheels and tires. At this point, I just have to switch the tires to the new wheels and roll on...

What was original offset.?

1/2 narrower rim gives you 6 mm more clearance, but if I am not wrong - you are compensating it with 7 mm bigger offset?
