Quick A/C Question
Hello All!

I have been trying to troubleshoot the issue with my AC system for the last couple of days. After doing the climate control scan, my three codes that showed up did not show up again in the following scans. Right now I have a quick question for my 2002 E430; Should the electromagnetic clutch engage when the car is parked and the A/C is on full blast on low? Thank you all!

The clutch should be on all the time there is demand for cooling.

Yep, thankyou for responding but in reality I have a leak where it completely leaks all of the freon in about a year.

The good news - is "normally" a slower leak like that turns out to be a leaking fitting/o-ring - it's when the system goes "blooey" end up being major expense.

Sadly, that "small leak" turned into the equivalent of a gunshot wound. All the Freon (dropped to around 7 PSI) was leaked in the course of 24 hours. In turn I am thinking I have to buy more r134a for the clutch to engage and put in the UV dye. At this point, I'll fix the system if the problem is with hoses or easier components. But if not, I am just going to leave the A/C broken.

Where you live?
My home town seldom drops below 105F this time of the year and even now, I am in north British Columbia, to experience 90F. Not something I would be happy without AC.

Oh, I live in New Jersey and it hasn't even hit 85 yet. So for me, I'd rather sweat for a couple of days when I drive then go down that A/C rabbit hole.
