blower motor regulator
This is a common problem. If your car is MY 98+, you can just buy a replacement regulator (about $175) from MB or online and replace it yourself. It's an easy 45 min job. The regulator is mounted on the blower motor housing which is located under the "roof" of the passenger seat footwell.
If you have a 97, MB discontinued the part and you would have to buy a new blower motor as well as the regulator for about $750 total. There is a workaround though. You can buy a regulator from a 97 S class, clip and interchange the wiring harnesses, and it will work fine. Do a search in this forum and you will find detailed instructions and part numbers. You can search under my user name or Benzmac who originally posted the fix.
Hope it helps.

What's up with the heatsink?
So big thanks to Benzmac and Aglasgow for the tips on the blower motor regulator -
One question -
I replaced the regulator on my 99 E430 with the W140 one from wholesaleimports.com, no problems took about 45 mins, and works well for the 2 minutes I had it running,
BUT, I can't figure out where to mount the regulator. The copper coating on the back of the new one looks as if it should mount to a heatsink or something, but my old regulator was swedged onto a large aluminum spiked heatsink that can't be removed.
So now I have the new on just screwed to an old plastic mounting hole in the housing for the fan. There is no metal around to attach it too.
Any ideas.
Thanks,
Brian

Help....93 300E
Can someone please tell me where the blower motor regulator is located...
I need to replace it. Also on a scale from 1-10 how hard is this job.
Also should I buy this new or used?
Thanks,
Gina

In your sig it says you drive a jag - so I don't know where it is in your car - but. . .
in my E430 in the passenger side front seat under the glove box is a large black cover, which comes off with 2 screws. Under that is a lot of stuff, but there is a cover to the blower motor which is the cover most toward the center console - there are I believe 5 or 6 torx/T20 screws to remove. Then this will reveal the blower motor. Up to this point it should be about 5 minutes. It is really quite easy to access it.
The rest is straightforward.

Thanks for the reply... Yes I do drive a jag, and I do know a lot about them.
But I also work on my Bro car which is a MB. So if you think its under the passenger side I will eventually find it.
Thanks
