Driver's Side Window broke

My Driver's side window will not go up anymore. All other windows work. Could it be that regulator problem that effects the rear windows?? Anyone run into the same problem? I hear the motor clicking when I try to put the window up.

Yep, the cable in the rear window regulator broke (actually, it's the lock that broke from the cable). You will have to replace the entire regulator, about $110 in part.

You need a rivet gun for the job (about $30 from Sear), I would use the rivet from Sear too (about $2, the one provided by Mercedes are just too tough). You will also need a drill to get the old rivets out.

The job is quite simple, take out the door panel, unplug the motor, unclock the little white plastic at the bottom of the window glass to separate it from the regulator, lift the glass up, drill the riviets and take the whole regulator out, separate the motor from the old regulator and mount it to the new one, put it back to you car, rivet it to the door, and reverse the earlier process.

Luckily, the front doors use the metal wheels regulator and unlikely to break. The rear doors have a pretty crappy design for regulator.

I've seen some dealer quote $500 for the job, crazy. It took me less than an hour for the job, and that was first time I did it.

Thanks for the help Zam, but I'm still a little confused. Is the regulator on the bottom of the window or on the side. I see 3 plastic clips across the bottom and I'm not sure what to remove.

You need to unmount the glass from the bottom of the regulator. You will see a little white clip, press both edges of it, push them down and slide it sideway from the horizontal bar (at the bottom of the regulator), that will free the glass from the regulator.

I'm attaching picture of the regulator. This whole piece need to be removed from the door. You can drill the rivet out, there're 3 or 4 of them total.

Thanks again Zam, but I think I figured out the problem. When I press up on the window switch, the driver's side window goes down. I'm guessing something electrical went wrong. When I try to close the windows all at once, by holding the remote button down(while locking car), all the windows go up. I'm assuming its the switch then? Do you have a extra set for sale?

Of course this has happened to my LR window as well. What's the deal w/ MB's quality?!?!? This never would have happened on my Accord or Maxima? I have crap like this w/ my E all the time! Stupid stuff yet costly when added up.

I've had two regulators go out ruining the tint on each window (one front, one back) each time there was a loud THUNK preceding the break.

Unhappy Rear Window broke

Oh man, this has just happened to my E430...Rear drivers side window made a big "Crack" sound & no longer goes up.

Dang! & I was just rolling the window down while trying that handy feature everyone was talking about with the remote sensor rolling the windows up & down automatically...what a bummer!

Looks like we're going to the dealer tomorrow...Thank GOD it is under warranty! I am seriously thinking the extendend warranty may be a good option for this car....$500.00 to repair this window

Man,

Dealer nowaday is just like Vegas casino: they assume it's your duty to pay for their EVERYTHING, well, at least Vegas have good buffet !!.

It cost me total $89 total to fix this window regulator problem: $89 for part, and my labor

Just get a rivet gun, it'll probably take you about 1/2 - 1 hour: take out the door panel, drill out the rivet, take out the old regulator, put in the new one, rivet it, snap in the door panel & screw. Done.

Hmmm, I think I should just open up a shop just to fix the W210 window regulator (and probably retrofit xenon projector as well), charge 1/2 what dealer typically charges, and make enough $$ to finance my hobby.

Vegas Buffet...ok, now I am hungry!

If the car were not under warranty, then I would ask hubby to give it a try....but you may have something in opening your own little side business! Lord knows you have the experience! May make for some nice pocket-change~!

I am just surprised that a car with only 23300 miles on it had a window break under normal use! Wonder if they have made a replacement part that is a bit more durable?? Anyone know??

Well, thanks for the info Zam...now I know what to do if this happens again when the warranty is up!
