Loud whine that corresponds with rpm

Hello, I couldn't find this posted elsewhere, so I figured I'd ask here. When driving, there is a very noticable whine coming from the engine bay, that rises in pitch with the rpm. On other threads it was stated Ps might be low, but at 80° engine temp (according to the dash) the meter was at the "full" indicator. I dont notice any changes to the Ps, everything is smooth. If anything, the only "problem" is shifting while in drive is a little rough, but nothing else is "wrong". After I did the most recent oil change, the whine went away for a short while, maybe half a day, and then came back. The car has 202xxx miles if that matters. Thanks for your help in advance!

Welcome Nuggsonmymind,

Posting a sound clip would be helpful.

A gaggle of MB's
Please do a forum search (or google) for W210 fan clutch - fan belt tensioner - fan belt idler roller - and also how to check water pump.

Something driven by your belt is causing the noise - and you do need to track it down - because once the fan belt "blows" you are going to be dead-in-the-water somewhere out on the highway - and that is NEVER a pleasant or inexpensive experience.
