The collar on my steering columb is sloppy. Very loose. How do I tighten it back up?

Dont know how you could tighten it yourself, probably have to take it in and get the plastic column replaced

Comon problem with the W210. Just bring it to a shop that can handle German car (only go to dealer as last resort !!!), they just need to take the steering wheels off and tightern the column.

My shop charged me 1/2 hour, took them about 10 minutes for the job.

I have rebuilt columbs in the past but not with air bags . So you are telling me that the screws to tighten are behind wheel and can't be tighten with an offset?

Yes. You will have to take out the steering wheel. Just unplug the airbag. I was there when the shop work on my car. As long as you don't have the key in the ignition when you disconnect/remove airbag/steering wheel, everything should be okey.
