E290 TD shaking at idle when cold, gets worse when in gear
Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and this is my first post!
Recently I've bought another W210 E290 TD, though unlike the first one, this one has some issues at idle.
When I start it up it vibrates pretty hard, especially compared to the other one which barely vibrates at all, it shakes the steering wheel hard and it gets even worse when put in D or R.
My first suspect was the torque converter, but the issue lessens as the car gets warmer, and the shift quality is top notch even when cold, so I eliminated that.
I'm thinking engine mounts, but other than the vibration there is no other symptom of engine mount failiure, and I can't see how engine temperature is connected with the engine mounts.
This one is really puzzling me, the car is in great overall shape, the mileage is 215 000 miles (350000 km) (the other one has 250 000 miles or 402000 km and runs like a champ) and I would like to get that sorted without changing too many parts.
Thanks for the help

Hi Plutoe, the fuel pump seems to be working fine, the timing also seems correct, I forgot to mention that when revving above idle the issue goes away, the engine is silky smooth above 700 rpm even when completely cold which puzzles me even further. I've revved the engine while in park and looking at the engine the mounts seem to be ok, I'll probably do them anyway but this is really strange considering how well everything runs above idle

I think the issue is related to the fuel system. Then and if you have an EGR system, is it functioning when engine is cold and without the VIN I am assuming that when up to temp there is no rev issues.

UPDATE: SOLVED
Just a quick update, engine and transmission mounts changed, the car is like new now, no vibration at all.
Hopefully it will help somebody out in the future.
