Sunroof controll via Smartkey
I brought my brother's 2000 E320 in for bits n pieces. One of the requests was to fix the windows/roof so that they're operational using the Smartkey. They fix everything I requested except for the roof, saying that on this vehicle, the roof did not sport this courtesy feature. My brother (playing soldier in Afgan) emails and says he could have sworn that he has used this feature before. I sitting here thinking, why would the windows be controlled via this method and the roof not (or optional)? Any insight? Is my dealer on the lazy side?

I'm driving a 2000 CLK320, and my sunroof opens with the windows when I hold down the unlock button on my key. If I hit lock for five seconds, everything will automatically close. I believe this is what you're referring to? If it's featured on my 2000 CLK, and his '99 E320, it should definately work on yours.

The key fob contains a radio-frequency unit to lock and unlock the doors, and a separate system to start the car. Instead of the usual metal ignition key, the driver inserts and turns the pointed tip of the key fob into the "key" portal, which initiates an infrared data exchange that unlocks steering column and starts the car. For maximum security, the SmartKey system changes access codes each time it is used.
