I know that AMG and Brabus wheels are pretty heavy for their size. Generally, chrome wheels are also heavier. SSR wheels which are "semi-forged" are super light and strong. My 8 x 18 Integrals weigh only 18 pounds each. Combine that with a light tire like Bridgestone S03 Potenza or Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and you get better handling, better ride, and acceleration than a heavy wheel.

Any time you lower the unsprung weight of a vehicle (without compromising strength), you improve all the above.

The lighter the rim, the better. The hard part is to find light & rigid rims.

With most lame aftermarket, you either get light & weak rim, or heavy & weak rim.

The reputable (AMG, Lorinser, Brabus...) are mostly rigid.

Some of the BBS wheels are very light and strong. I have owned BBS wheels, but had problems with bending them. The forged BBS wheels are very nice, but super expensive.

The only set of AMG wheels I had, the clearcoat started flaking off AFTER warranty.

The SSRs are the best wheels I have ever owned. Excellent, durable finish, super light weight, strong, and fit great. No problems whatsoever in 4 years. They discontinued the "Integrals" which I own, but have other models available. They are not cheap, however. Tire Rack sells 'em.

I have seen the ASA wheels. They look really nice and the price is right. Basically replicas of BBS and AMG. Tire Rack sells those too. Go to their Web site and check out the wheels. Most of the detailed info. tells you what the wheels weigh. Call Luke and ask him....he will tell you what is good and what isn't.

Good thread!

Any other suggestion for lite-weight wheels for track useage only? I've been looking at the Renntech Monolites or perhaps even Volk's Racing wheel line; TE37s, LE-37 or Gram-lites.

Those that have TUV approval will be rigid but also heavy due to the tough requirements. Light and strength is found in good quality forged wheels......

Hahahhaha, Rich, I think you're getting a bit carried away here dude...but yeah Volk is a good brand.

Hehehehe, the euro-rice in me is starting to take over (hence, the CF motifs)

I met-up with the crew at Mackin Industries @ the IAS show a few months back and the topic came about I was searching for a lite-weight wheels to track and I was recommended to use the LE or TE37s...aprox. less than 20lbs on 18".
