COMAND help
hi
Does anyone know if it's possible to install the Comand 2 system in a 1998 E-class. my car still has the factory single-din navigation radio.
if anyone did that, did you replace the main wood console to accomodate the double din comand and where did you get the new console?

I asked this same question about 2-3 months ago. The answer is no. There is a imcompatible plug between the 2 different units. Sorry, but you might as well go for an in-dash monitor.

Nice. Have you consider other mp3 HUs?
I recently just got the Alpine S634 6Disc CD/MP3 changer. Finally can enjoy ALOT of MP3 in the car.
Check out my car's site.

Actually, it has been done. See www.megacomm.de - its not too hard *if* you have a US car which has the aerials and stuff pre-wired.
See www.megacomm.de
Theyve replaced the wood and some interior bits of the centre console - theres some pictures.
If you search for COMAND on mbworld, theres some descriptions of the parts needed and the wiring changes you need to do

Reading mdf's post again. He has the single slot nav unit (which I guess is the Audio-30 APS), so I guess he is in Europe - but since he has that, he has the GPS wiring installed already.
An adapter will be needed between the GPS plug on the Comand and the more-standard GPS connector thats on the Audio-30-APS
No idea what the part number for that is ... but I think megacomm sell wiring looms with the right plugs.

yes i have the european e class, my radio is the 'travelpilot' -which is the lowest one pictured here (no cassette and no cd ![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)

i had my eye on a Comand that was sold for about 1000$, but i gave it up cause i wasn't sure i'd be able to install it. I checked the megacomm site following Richard's post and they have the exact pictures I had in mind. For someone in germany the whole thing is pretty easy, but elsewhere I think it will be hard to find someone specialized in that.
by the way turbo you have a great system there.

Turbo][, the Comand modification was probably done on a 2000+ car. This can not be done on 96-99 model. All 2000+ W210 have GPS antenna, Tele-Aid & steering wheel mounting controls to use with Comand. Only cars built after 06/1999 can be retrofitted.
If you want Nav you have to go with this Mercedes add on unit:

E55 Kev, you can put COMAND in virtually anything :-)
Restrictions are :-
If you're not in the US and >MY2000(or so) then you will need to
install a GPS aerial (rtf already has that)
If your pre about 99 or not in a Mercedes (ive seen pictures of COMAND in a Golf), then you need either the unit from a ML, a very old COMAND, or a CANbus adapter that has the speed-sensor, lights, ignition connections on it and converts them to CAN signals which the COMAND unit is expecting.
Id not opt for the very-old-comand purely because the software is buggier :-)

You can put a kitchen sink and a toilet in a E-Class also if you want!![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
The members that asked are in the United States. I am referring to U.S. 96-99 E-Class without GPS, tele-aid, etc. US owners are not going to spend $5k to add Comand. The owners are looking for practical affordable upgrades.

Originally, I have the Mercedes/Siemen GPS system in the car. Since than I have now changed to the Alpine GPS system. As you might have already seen.
I wonder how much I can get for the Mercedes/Siemens GPS system?? Any idea??
