E320 Crank Pulley
I have recently heard that there is a problem with 99 E320 crank pulley failure. Has anyone had any experience with it? A friend just had the crank pulley break and exit through the front of the car with 45K miles. I understand that it may be heat related?

Yes The Crank Pullies are Having PROBLEMS as in seperating from the inner ring and removing anything in there way on the way out
as in the pulley takes out oil pan/front cover/water pump/radiator/
BAD !!design
Note the V6 uses the SAME pulley as the V8 SAME P/N
So its a GOOD Idea to INSPECT the CRANK PULLY AT each oil change for cracks before it EXPLODES!! And try to have it replaced before the car is out of FACTORY WARRANTY
Or MERCEDES WILL GOODWILL IT BECAUSE of the problem!!

Yup, mine fell off at 45,000 miles. Grinded my oil pan, timing cover and everything else in its path. MB goodwilled it for me, so I paid nothing (Honolulu, HI). I had to escalate the issue to top management before they admitted it was a MB problem part.
Get your changed no matter if it's bad or not--the new pulley has a different part # that supercedes the old defective one. DON'T WAIT!!!
Aloha,
Keoni

It's a known problem with the early 112/113 motors. I'm replacing the oil pan, front cover, and crank pulley right now on a 2000 CL500 with only 13,000 miles. The pulley disintegrated.

Thanks to all replies. Is this also a problem with the 2000 C280? I haven't seen any reported problems with that model, but I have not seen any discussion on the E problem either. Is this a problem limited to the E and CL's?
