Door lock, proper way to remove vacuum line

Several posts here that cover how to replace the door lock, but so far I have not see anyone discuss how to remove the vacuum line. What has been shown is cutting the existing line to avoid damage to the connector, then once the actuator is out of the door to remove the connector and patch the cut line. I have not yet done this job and planning it for my daughters car, so I want to know how to remove that connector without breaking it. Ideally I would rather avoid the cut and patch method. Here is a close up from a picture posted on this forum. It looks like you may squeeze the bottom and pull but with this old plastic I would like to know before hand the proper way. The WIS does not discuss it - it just says to remove. Thanks in advance!

The connector is part number 202 800 04 53, the hose is part number 007 997 61 82

from fading memory, the gray plastic fitting is friction fit...fingers slightly spring loaded. you can google the part number for larger view to get an idea

the plastic hose can become aged and slightly brittle over the years so you may not have much choice but to cut it off the line and hope that you have enough slack to reinsert into the gray coupling. your photo is way too small for me to make out any details. the hose is also friction fit - it's been over 10 yrs but I used a hair drier to warm (not HEAT or HOT) and simply pushed it onto the coupling.

if the cut in the air hose is much further upstream, you can consider buying a new line (don't recall the being exorbitant but hey, it's a MB so it's up to the dealer with respect to mark-up. Another consideration is to use self vulcanizing silicone tape which I 'love to keep in stock in my garage. The air hose is relatively low pressure (single digit psi says my brain) so my initial thought is that the silicone tape may suffice if wound tight. The air hose is both positive and negative pressure depending on the control instructions (something like positive to unlock and negative to lock...or vice versa)

Always used skinny needle nose pliers to pop off the lines. Stick the pliers between the fitting and what you are popping off of applying pressure to the 'fingers' of the fitting. They are pretty durable and as long as you don't apply angled pressure and only straight outward pressure they will pop off.
