Leave old ESL in Car

Hello, So I just received my replacement Ecu, Esl, Ein, for 2001 w210 e320 wagon, I plugged everything in to test and the car started right up,(YEAH..) looks like the hardest part about putting all this back together is switching out that esl, I was fortunate enough to be able to remove the esl locking pin before while waiting for new parts to arrive so my steering wheel is unlocked, Question is there any reason why I just can't leave the old unit where it is, find room for my new esl under the dashboard somewhere and leave it that way. I understand I wouldn't have the anti-theft deterrent of the locking steering wheel, but I also wouldn't have to deal with the removal of the steering wheel, lowering the steering column and all that mess. Like I said I've already removed the locking pin so unless im missing something car should work like before right??? I know i sound real lazy right now but honestly its a 2001 with 230k the time i spent fiquring all this out(2 1/2 months now) Im spent!!!! I only paid $1000 for it 2yrs ago its been a good car up untill now but Next time something goes wrong im done with it.
