Regular or Premium ?
Oh geez. My E320 (M112 V6) requires Premium fuel. Owner's manual says if you can't use Premium, then to keep rpm's below 3,000. Older engine's could have carbon buildup in the cylinders which increase compression in the piston -- and therefore increase likelihood of detonation, which Premium fuel helps mitigate. So the short answer is: yes. Try 87. If you hear detonation, keep your rpm's down and fill up with 91 next time.
