Coolant in Windshield washer reservoir

Seems like I have fallen victim to the infamous washer fluid heater core design. Low coolant warning popped up and my washer tank is almost full of nasty discolored liquid.

I saw on a video that you can bypass that from happening and remove the heater element completely (I live in Virginia where temps are not that cold).Am i to understand correctly that the hoses that feed coolant into this element just need to be connected together? Or would some other connection need to be made so that the coolant keeps circulating?
