I just picked up a 1997 Mercedes Benz E Class. The 420 model.

How many catalytic converters do they have? I am thinking of straight piping. What are there scrap value?

i was gonna straight pipe mine (e320) and go that route, but i knew that the engine light would stay on bc no o2 sensors, and if i were to want to resell or get sticker it would be a problem....so i decided to put on new ones, i bought the rig and the cats were clogged and car wouldn't go over 25mph
so i went to local shop and they put on aftermarket cats ---did a fantastic job actually. but they gave me the cats back bc i requested them back and two were whole and 2 the biscuits were all broken up. i got 600 for the 4 cats, even though two were just shards of biscuits in a box. but it is that biscuit that is the money stuff.
so i paid the shop 2k, and sold for 600, 1400 to make the cats all back up to snuff and runs beautifully now

so to answer your question specifically idk, but i suspect it is the same as the 320??
so i am in Vermont - and the scrap value of them should be roughly consistent throughout different areas but maybe not. i think if it is different you would find that they are less value in other areas bc i tend to find/see New England as having higher priced stuff just in general

pretty sure there is 4

the front two are the ones that are metered , the back two you could straight pipe from the fronts, iow delete the rear cats

but i am 99.7823% sure you have 4

magnaflow website indicates a left anf right cat assembly
just like they did on mine

so im for 4 cats
