Should my 2000 E200 M111.942 (no kompressor) have a check engine light?

2000 E200
Should my 2000 E200 M111.942 (no kompressor) have a check engine light?
I noticed that when I turn on the ignition there's no check engine light.
I pulled out the cluster, put the handbrake bulb in the check engine socket but it still doesn't light up, does this model not have a check engine light ?
